APRIL 6, 2017

The regular meeting of the Corydon City Council was called to order by Mayor Rodney Parham. Present were Council Members Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Others in attendance were Bill and Nancy Buss from Hall Engineering, Josh Cobb and Fire Chief Bryan Wallace, Police Chief Allen Fry and the City clerk.

Hall Engineering presented the Council with a preliminary engineering report containing construction cost estimates for proposed street improvements.

Moorman made the motion to approve Resolution 2017-16, a Resolution for vacation and conveyance of the North-South alley adjacent to Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12, 13, 14 in Block Eleven of Van Werdens Addition in Corydon, Wayne County, Iowa. Holmes seconded. Ayes-Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Nays-none.

Jaeckel made the motion to approve the liquor license renewal for The Alley Cat Sports Bar & Lounge. Bennett seconded. Ayes-Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Nays-none.

Moorman made the motion to approve the request from the Wayne Community High School Art Club to close one block of W. Jackson on May 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for “Art of the Street”. VanderSluis seconded. Ayes-Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Nays-none.

VanderSluis made the motion to approve the quote from Ziegler for the rental of a cold planer attachment for the skid loader for one month. Jaeckel seconded. Ayes-Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Nays-none.

The Council was advised that candidate #2, Brandon Trower, has accepted the open position on the City crew. Starting wage will be $13.00 an hour with a review at ninety (90) days. Start date is yet to be determined.

Jaeckel made the motion to approve the minutes and treasurer’s report as presented. Holmes seconded. Ayes-Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Nay-none.

Jaeckel made the motion to allow the unpaid and prepaid bills. Moorman seconded. Ayes-Jaeckel, Moorman, Holmes, Bennett and VanderSluis. Nays-none.

The City clerk advised the Council that letters have been sent to the owners of 200 S. Franklin and 205 E Moore, reminding them of nuisance abatement deadlines.

Council Members were informed of an upcoming IAWEA Small Community Workshop on April 18th in Monroe, and a Small City Workshop on June 6th in Chariton.

Alliant Energy has proposed a rate increase. The interim increase for municipal lighting will be 10.3% and take effect April 13, 2017. The proposed final increase will be 14.4%.

Spring Clean Up will be April 27th.

Fire Chief Bryan Wallace advised the Council that the county fire departments would be doing a walk through at East Penn Manufacturing.

Assistant Fire Chief Josh Cobb advised the Council of the proposed increase of the mental health tax levy.

The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a work session before the meeting at 6:00 p.m.
